On the road again

Earlier this month, Seth and I celebrated our twenty sixth wedding anniversary.

Most years, we mark the occasion with a short trip to one of Colorado's mountain towns.
Estes Park, 2012
Last year, we drove to Green River, Wyoming to see wild horses.
The weather didn't really cooperate, but we still had a great time.
We both enjoyed that so much, in fact, Seth suggested we do the same thing this year.
I had other ideas. "If you want to see mustangs," I said, "how would you feel about Sand Wash Basin in northwestern Colorado?"
He was amenable, so a little more than two weeks ago, Seth, Piper and I piled into the van headed out.
It was cold and rainy when we left Denver,
but as we drove onward and upward, we started to see hints of blue skies.
Aaah!
We stopped for coffee in Kremmling.
Three shots!
Then it was up and over Rabbit Ears pass.
We parked at the summit...
to take in the views...
and play in the snow.
From there, it was on to Steamboat Springs. I wanted to stop and explore but Seth was in a hurry to get to our destination. We compromised with a quick picture with the sign and a promise to do more on the way home.
Some six hours after leaving our home in Aurora, we reached the booming metropolis of Maybell, Colorado, population seventy six.
We set up our campsite, ate dinner and relaxed.
Everyone was tired, so it was an early night. We went to sleep dreaming of mustangs.
With no input from me, my phone made a video of our trip. I would not have included the long shot of Piper staring at me from under the bathroom door, but otherwise, this is a pretty neat summary of the day.
Next up - our journey into Sand Wash Basin.
