Last month, I flew to California to spend time with my mom and sister.
While I was there, I did what I always do: I went down to the basement, dusted off a couple model horses and brought them upstairs to keep me company during my visit.
Both of these models were holiday special runs from my high school years. I can't remember the Andalusian's name, but the Arabian was called Shimmeree. I named her after the main character in the Stephen Cosgrove book of the same name.
Another thing I always do while I'm in California is visit my hobby friend, Tara Reich.
Tara lives just seven miles from my mom in a cute LA apartment with this glorious hobby space.
I love to spend time there, ogling Tara's newest acquisitions...
and playing with her cats.I brought Shimmeree with me, mostly because I wanted to get a picture of her with Screaming Man and CenThor. I didn't plan to give her to Tara, but that's what happened.
Several weeks later, I was cleaning my basement and came across Shimmeree's baby.
She was wearing one of the little green corduroy blankets I used to make for all my models. This one was actually made for Golden Sun, another model on the same mold, but same close enough.
I made her a little halter.
Then I put her in a box and sent her away.
A few days later, Tara sent me this photo. Yay! That is exactly what I wanted to see!
Thank you, Tara, for taking care of Shimmeree and her baby. And be warned: The stallion is here somewhere. There could be another box in your future!
