In 2009, Seth and toured the Penrose Heritage Museum (formerly known as the Carriage Museum) during a weekend trip to Colorado Springs.

That was a really busy time for me in regards to my tack making career. I still thought I could - and would - make one of everything, so I took lots of pictures...I'm on the side of things these days. I don't make a lot of tack anymore, mostly just small projects for myself or my friends. Still, old habits die hard. When I go to a carriage museum, I still take lots of pictures. So many. It's ridiculous. Some are of the pictures are as much about the museum space and presentation as they are about the tack itself. But some of the others...and I mean a lot of the others...are still about the construction details. At this point, I know it's unlikely, but I could still make some of these things someday. And, truly, you can never have too many reference photos.
How many harness cruppers have I made without ever touching one in real life?
Now I've touched several.
Nothing beats holding a piece of tack in your hands, feeling the seems and seeing the construction details.
This one has an extension, presumably to help keep the horse's tail up.
Another view.
I don't know how many big tack sets I have left in me, but even if that number is zero, I'll always take tack reference photos. You just never know.
I had been making model silver parade sets for over 2 decades before I finally got to put my hands on one. It was in a museum in New Mexico. So true: You just never know!
