There is only one carriage hooked to a horse at the Penrose Heritage Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
It's an 1890 hooded gig made by Brewster & Company in New York City.
The horse, harness and gig were all pretty cool...
but it was the fly chaser net that really caught my attention.
I took all the pictures,
I don't have any immediate plans to make this.
But you never know.
I might snap awake one morning and realize I need a 1:9 scale fly chaser net.
It could happen.
No really.
And if it does, I'll be prepared.

Wow! I have never seen ANYthing remotely like this before, but it makes sense. It looks like macrame, kind of? I never learned how to do that, so I really don’t know. Reminds me of the buggy with the fringe on top, only it’s on the horse!
ReplyDeleteI was able to handle an antique fly net in a museum in Kansas last year (Tallgrass Prairie Reserve, Jones Barn). It was made of leather and string. I've always admired them and wondered if I'd ever be brave enough to build one! Yours looks in better shape! I think I've seen One scale-model one but damn can't remember whose nor where.
