Today's photos

A few years ago, during a barn beers night, Ryan referred to the barn as being "nature adjacent."
That term stuck with me. Even though the barn is surrounded on all sides by houses, parks, recreation centers, warehouses, streets, junkyards and even an Air Force Space Force Base, there is definitely a lot of nature.
Also, a lot of wildlife.
Literally, I don't think I've ever gone on a single off property ride without viewing some kind of wild animal.
Animals I've personally seen on our trails include squirrels and rabbits,
prairie dogs,
free roaming dogs,
box turtles,
garter snakes and bull snakes...
There are a myriad of birds including, but definitely not limited to, Canada geese,
red tail hawks,
wild turkeys and turkey vultures...
and bald eagles.
We have both white-tailed deer...
and mule deer...
and lots of coyotes.
I'm not a snake girl, but I do like seeing the other animals, especially the eagles,
the deer...
and the coyotes.
Today's prompt for the Yuletide Cheer Photo Chaos Challenge is "Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal! " Wildlife!
I do have a fair amount of wildlife models, including many whose real life counterparts I have seen and photographed while riding on the nature adjacent trails of Aurora.
Despite that, I was uninspired.
I just didn't know what to do.
Then I opened Facebook and saw some very inspiring wildlife models.
One thing led to another...
as it always does...
and now I have two new deer on the way!
This is a very long post filled with wildlife pictures but no official wildlife Challenge photo. Judge me if you want, but this has been a very hard week. Sometimes you just have to BUY A DEER and call it good.

  1. Dear me -- ! my beams are getting crossed. I'm a member of Rocky Mtn Elk Foundation and a serious model horser, but model deer I have very few of (I do have Moose, which will be seen later), beyond a few non-Breyer oddments. You are bounding right past and blazing a trail to much more detailed cervines, to a place I've only dreampt of. I can't keep up.

  2. Living in the inner city, we have our share of wildlife!! The most abundant used to be the pigeons until they introduced hawks to the skyline!
We have a few war memorial parks in the downtown area which means plenty of grey squirrels and chickadees!! Amazingly, we've even had news reports of red foxes wandering the streets. And, of course, there's plenty of grassy parking lots for the Canadian geese to roost. (They're so brazen that they remind you of bison!! If they decide to cross the street in a huddle, they can (and do) bring traffic to a stop on both sides!)
I've seen cotton tail rabbits living among our hedges--even on occasion, an opossum and raccoons.
A few days ago, I saw my first red tail hawk. Unfortunately, it had crashed into the side of our building and was deceased.

  3. I love the deer- both model and the "real"!( I want a mule deer too!)
Question: Are the model(s) between the JXK models legs Schleich or Papo brands??

P.S. Also like photo of lying cotton tail rabbit! Is that a photo of a "real" horse with the 2 deer --or models?? Really can't tell!

    1. The deer with the JXK models is a Safari. That's the one I bought. The photo with the horse and two is deer is of real models. Angelo sent that to show scale.
