My sister and I received our first Breyers for our birthdays in 1974. I got the Clydesdale foal, and Erin got the lying down foal.
Those first models were quickly followed by another.
And then another and another and another.I collected all through childhood, into my high school and college years and beyond.
Way beyond.
I have thinned the herd here and there, but mostly it's been forty nine years of collecting.
I am fifty four years old, and I am drowning in plastic horses.
This became painfully obvious last year when our basement flooded and all the downstairs horses - which is most of them - were relocated temporarily to the living room.
It took nearly a year to get the basement fixed.
When it was finally done, I wasn't sure I wanted to move all those models back into the basement. I'd started dreaming of a clean, uncluttered hobby space with fewer horses and more room. With Teresa's help, I did a major cull right before the BreyerWest Swap Meet.
I sold a lot of horses there. Not all, but a lot.Goodbye, Al Borak. I hope you are happy in your new home in Maine.
I donated a pair of horses to Beth McCarley's Beehive Live, another pair to Anna Miller's upcoming Indian Paintbrush Live and sent three more to live with Lynn's granddaughter. It's a long, slow and surprisingly difficult process, but I am determined. That serene, uncluttered hobby space is calling my name. I can't wait to make it a reality!

Wow! So many horses!!! If you have any that you want to sell cheap please let me know!!! (I just started collecting last year and always want more! 😂)
ReplyDeleteI definitely have a lot of nice but not valuable horses in need of a new home. Send me an email (braymere@comcast.net) and I'll see what I can do.
DeleteMila is going to be so excited when I give her the box to open this weekend. She has no idea you sent it! Thank you!
