Pictures from today's rides

I haven't jumped in the outside ring at Kenlyn since Rev and I crashed to the ground seven years ago. In the time since then, I have jumped a lot of logs on the trail, mostly on Stealth who always bucks. For whatever reason, that doesn't scare me. However, the idea of cantering down to a fence inside a ring - especially that ring - has filled me with a lot of anxiety.

Last Saturday, I watched Flynn's owner pop him over several small jumps. He loped over them quietly, and I thought, "I want to do that."

So today, I did. This is, perhaps, the world's least exciting jumping video. The "jump" is tiny and I'm overriding because I'm nervous, but it's a start. Next time we'll try something a little bigger.
After I was done with Flynn, I saddled up Lucy and headed out with Mary Jo and Scarlett and Therese and Thunder.

As we approached the big trees by the bench, we saw an eagle sitting in the branches. As we got closer, another eagle flew across the trail,

right over our heads...

and landed next to the first one.
We stopped and took a lot of pictures of the eagles.
Then we took a lot of pictures of each other...
taking pictures of the eagles.

Yep, that's a keeper!

We said goodbye to the eagles...
and continued on down the trail.

To this point, Lucy had been her best self, but she got a little anxious on the way home. At one point, Therese looked over and said, "She's kind of doing a nice passage," which would have been great if that was what I was asking her to do.

Despite that, we made it back to the barn without incident. I decided to walk Lucy around the ring a few times to settle her. It worked. She was relaxed and quiet, and I was just about to call it good, when she spooked and spun hard to the right. I've ridden this particular maneuver a million times, but not today. I went right over her shoulder and landed on my butt in the dirt.

I'm fine. If I had to fall off, that was the way to do it.

Lucy was not apologetic.
In review, today's rides included my first arena jump in seven years, a pair of eagles, illegal passage and my first fall in five years. It was all the things and all the emotions. I'll probably be sore tomorrow, but that was worth it!

    1. LOL. I think that is the least exciting jumping video in the history of the universe. I wish someone would have had a camera on me when Lucy slung me into the ground. That would have been a lot more interesting.

    1. Jumping is really fun. I recommend it to everyone, especially kids who still bounce.
