Stone Horses' the Art of the Horse contest has two divisions, one for flatwork and literature, the other for models. In today's second post, we're looking at one of the finalists in the Flat Art, Traditional Media category. This post was originally published on Ruru Cold's blog and was adapted for this space. Thank you, Ruru for allowing me to show your words, photos and, especially, artwork!
The Making of Eunoia
by Ruru Cold
After much hesitation, I've decided to participate in this year's Art of the Horse competition held by the Stone company. As I am a traditional artist, I chose to enter a drawing (watercolor).
Eunoia - represent the bond between my mare, Amira, and I even in our darkest hours. In 2020, Amira was battling for her life, from vet clinic to vet clinic. It was a long path, but hope was never lost. I had trust, and we won our fight.
It's a drawing that I'd made to represent a feeling that matched this year's theme of Harmony. The bond between is was really important, and I hope this drawing goes straight to the judge's heart.
I am truly, forever grateful that Amira is still here, even as a lawnmower!
Finalists announced in mid-March. I'm one of them, and I am grateful for that, too.
Congratulations, Ruru. I love your drawing, your horse and the bond that you two so obviously share. Good luck in Kentucky!

Cold Ruru's story of Amira, told on her blog, is really something to read.
