Now that Carol is gone, it's back to work for me and back to the Kentucky contests for the blog. Here's a fabulous entry for 3D Art Traditional Media division of Stone Horses' the Art of the Horse by my friend and fellow mustang owner, Beatrice Rudolph.
The Making of the Elemental Medallions
by Beatrice Rudolph
When Peter Stone Model Horses announced their theme for the 2025 Stone Art of the Horse contest - “Harmony” - My first thought was a quote from the animated TV show Avatar: The Last Airbender: “Once upon a time, the four nations lived together in harmony.” Put simply, the show centers around characters from the four nations: Water, Earth, Fire and Air - which include some humans with special powers to “bend” the elements.

| It’s an amazing show, you should totally watch it if you haven’t already! |
So I thought - why not make a horse medallion to represent each element (Water, Earth, Fire and Air)? I’ve been experimenting with clear resin colored with alcohol inks in my medallions and other resin pieces, so I could incorporate this technique to show the different elements in colors.
From sketch to finished piece, I tried to choose horse breeds, expressions, poses and colors that embodied the respective element.
“Air” would be represented by a jumping warmblood,
“Earth” would be a grazing draft horse,
“Water” would be a running Arabian...
and “Fire” would be a spicy bucking pony.
I personally completed every step in the production of these medallions - I sculpted the medallions, created the molds, cast the medallions and painted the finished product.
I’m incredibly proud of what I have brought to life, and I’m very excited to be a finalist in the 3D Art division of the Art of the Horse. I will be selling blank medallions at the BreyerFest Artisan’s Gallery 2025!
Congratulations, Beatrice. I love both the concept and execution of your medallions. Good luck in Kentucky!
