Lynn's AOTH entry

Unlike the BreyerFest Best Customs Contest, which is only open to legal residents of the United States, excluding Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Nebraska and Vermont, Stone Horses' the Art of the Horse competition is open to everyone. In fact, two of the three finalists in the Division A, Flat Art - Traditional Art section hail from other nations entirely. Ruru Cold lives in France and Lynn Cassels-Caldwell is Canadian.

Lynn writes: Here is my Stone Horses Art Of The Horse entry in the traditional flat art category. It's an oil painting titled "Duet". I love the theme of "harmony" this year, and decided to create a new painting specifically for AOTH. I've entered every year and have been fortunate to achieve honourable mentions each time. So I was totally blown away to have this entry chosen as a finalist! I think most people in the hobby probably know me mostly as a model horse artist, but I had a twenty plus year career as a horse portrait artist, then switched to professional horse show photography for the following twenty years. When the covid pandemic hit, I started to create oil paintings again. "Duet" is based on my own photos and represents the many quiet moments of friendly harmony I often saw with my own horses. Their peaceful calm invites us to join them. The colours and composition support the overall theme. This is a unique convergence of my lifelong creative output in the horse, art, photography and model worlds. My creative core has always firmly been rooted in my love of horses. I can hardly wait to see what the amazing Stone Horses artists create from my painting!
Congratulations, Lynn. This is a gorgeous painting, and yes, I do want to join those horses. Good luck in Kentucky!

Thank you so much Jennifer for sharing my art, and shining the spotlight on the world of horse art in all of its facets!

  2. Why are those states excluded, do you know? I live in Nebraska and wanted to enter next year!
