Eva's BCC entry

In 2023, Eva Matthews made one of the biggest and most ambitious BreyerFest Best Customs Contest Tack class entries not to make the finals.

Six harnesses
That would have been it for a lot of people.
Not Eva. Instead, she kept working on that entry, making it bigger, stronger, even more ambitious. She resubmitted her photos for the 2024 event, and this time she made it to the finals.
A lot artists would have been content with that, but again, not Eva. Her 2025 BCC Excellence in Tack entry is another multi-horse harness set-up, and let me tell you: this is spectacular!
Eva writes: This is my entry for this year's Best Customs Contest. It's the 1830 coronation harness that is still used by the British Royal Family for special occasions. It took me nearly a year to research, plan and make it.
It features over one hundred thirty working buckles and more than two hundred gold leafed decorations. Blue duck saddlery in Austria custom made the buckles for me, and the leather was flown in from Italy.  also ruched ten yards of two millimeter silk ribbon for the mane decorations.
I dreamed about making this set for years, and I'm so glad I finally did it.
Congratulations, Eva. I love everything about this, and I fully expect to see it standing on the table - with a big rosette next to it - at the Artisan's Gallery. Good luck in Kentucky!

  1. Wow! How the devil did that Cinderella coach not make it to the finals??? Who the heck were the judges??
I thought the Cinderella display was from 2024(instead of 2023) as I took several photos of it!!(and I don't go to Breyerfest every year)
Here's hoping they have different judges this year--because this entry is fantastic!! I wish I were so talented!! I wish I had that kind of imagination too!! Good Luck Eva!!

    1. I went back and checked, and it looks like Eva resubmitted it in 2024, with lots of added details. That time it did make it into the finals, placing second behind Dani Boiko's entry. I didn't go either year, so I'd completely forgotten about that. When I have a moment, I'll update the post.

  4. I think all us tackmakers have amazing tack sets that we'd like to make one day, filed away in our heads. I'm so glad Eva has been able to make hers!
