The cone of shame

It's been a really long week.
No one likes the cone of shame, especially not Darcy.  If she could talk, I think her story would go something like this: I went to the vet, and now my butt hurts and I have to wear the cone of shame.
I do not like the cone of shame.  It makes everything difficult.  I keep crashing into things and I can barely eat my food.
I can't play with my toys,
I'm not supposed to play with the other dogs,
and the cats are mocking me. 
I know the humans are feeling guilty because they keep giving me extra treats.
I like treats, but they don't make up for having to wear the cone.
I do not like the cone of shame.  I can't wait until my life gets back to normal.

    Poor Darcy, but there are soft cones. It's like a pillow you put around the dogs neck.
    In Germany there's a product called Thorni (http://www.thorni.de/), but I guess there's something equal existing in the USA.
    My aunt dressed her dog in a baby body after an operation, it worked quite well.

    I bought one of those collars, but my vet wasn't very enthusiastic about. I haven't returned it, but I'm kind of afraid to use it. Maybe in a day or two when she's had a bit more time to heal...

    But the model-sized one looks fun c:

      I made the e collar from Breyer box plastic. You never know when that stuff will come in handy!

    Poor Darcy. No one likes the cone of shame. I hope she heals up quickly.
    I am a bit jealous of all the little miniature dog items you have...

      I like miniatures, too, and will buy almost anything that's 1:9 scale and is likely to be be found in a barn. I've had some of these dog items for years. It was fun getting them out and showing them off!

    If she's very agile, the pillow collar may not work well. You can always give it a shot under supervision, though once she gets at the stitches (or whatever it is) you're probably out of luck. They make quick work of things once started!

    We could not help but howl with laughter at the looks on Sunshine's face when we first installed a cone after her knee surgery. First it was puzzlement: "Why you do this, Mom?" Then it was, "Well, fine, I'm not moving." She planted her feet and stood there like a statue. We got her to move and then tried to get her in her crate as we had to go out. She walked in and then stood there again, unwilling to try and turn around. After much coaxing and banging about she finally did, where she continued to stand and by this point, give us baleful looks. "Yeah... okay... what DO you think you're doing to me..." We petted her and fussed over her some more, and gave her treats, and finally she laid down with a long-suffering sigh and was resigned to her fate. NOT a happy camper, though.

    After about one day, I tried taking the cone off when we were home and she never touched her staples. When we left we'd put it back on and she eventually learned how to eat, drink and navigate through the house and doorways with it - but it was still extremely unpopular!

    Sorry she is so unhappy! I put a Kong Kloud on my schnauzer after her surgery and it worked great. We tried a cone for a day or so and she hated it. Kloud was much better for her.
