New Year's day

I had dreams of starting the new year with a bareback ride in the snow, but three degrees is really cold.

I waited and waited, but at one o'clock it was still only ten degrees. I figured that was as good as it was going to get so I made a hot mash and headed out to the barn.
Olive greeted me with a nicker. That warmed my heart, if not my feet.
I try to get her out and moving every day, so I turned her out in the paddock.
She immediately checked in with all her friends.
Olive really likes this little filly...
but she and Billy have a complicated relationship.
After that, she got a little spicy.
She settled down eventually, but I think it's a good thing I decided against that bareback ride.
After forty minutes, my feet were numb, so I caught her, fed her the noms and went home.
It may not have been my idyllic New Year's pony ride fantasy, but it was close enough. I am looking forward to an entire year of hanging out with Olive.

  1. Brrr, I bet she was glad for the warm mash.

  2. Hmm it was -30 C or colder here the whole holiday, just warmed up on Jan 1 but now dipping back to -22.
