How much prepping?

How much prepping is the right amount of prepping? This was a recent topic of discussion on the NaMoPaiMo Facebook page.

There is, of course, no definitive answer. Like original poster, I am one of those people who could prep forever and never start painting. In fact, it feels like that's what I have been doing with these three little resins. By most standards, they are prepped. When I look at them with my regular glasses, they look flawless. With magnifiers, they appear a little less so. Extreme close up inspection with my naked eyes reveals a multitude of tiny scratches and almost non-existent pinholes. I am trying to convince myself that they're fine. No one will ever look at them that closely. Still, even when I can't see them, I know those flaws are there. I keep prepping.
Fortunately, the end is in sight. The whole point of NaMoPaiMo is to push through the roadblocks that get in our way and actually finish things.
That means, the right amount of prepping is the amount I can do between now and January 31st. After that, I'm painting. Microscopic pinholes be damned!
