Sculpting a head with Maggie Bennett

Saturday is workshop day at BreyerWest. I participated in one: Head Sculpting with Maggie Bennett.

Each participant was given a 1:9 scale 3D printed skull, Monster Clay, two sculpting tools and several sheets of reference images.
Maggie showed gave us some general guidelines and showed us a head she had created with these same materials.
Then she told us to start sculpting!
I was sitting next to Jennifer Scott, which was both inspiring and intimidating. Part of me was tempted to just sit there and watch her sculpt.
At some point, someone had a question that needed a real horse for clarification. Maggie said, "Hold on!" She ran off and came back with Buffy the therapy pony.
We tried to match up the landmarks on Buffy's head and the skull.
Then we all just kind of got lost in loving on Buffy!
Eventually, we refocused and got back to work. Here's what my head looked like at the end of the two hour workshop. Not bad!
This was a really fun and educational workshop. Thank you so much, Maggie!

  1. Nothing to do with horses or models, but I LOVE Maggie's hairdo!
