Dagobert

Here are some more pictures of my new Otto resin.
Dagobert was painted by Sonya Johnson in 2008.  His name means "bright day" in German.
I am absolutely enamored with the color variations in his mane and tail.  I love a good chestnut, and this is one of the best I've ever seen.  It's such a shame that Sonya is no longer part of the model horse hobby.
She is, however, still producing other forms of art.  You can view her paintings and photographs on her art blog which is updated several times a week.
All of today's photos were taken by Sonya and are used with her permission.  Many thanks, Sonya, for my lovely new model!

  1. He's really cute! I'm on an artist hunt myself, as I just won an SM resin that's joining the growing stack that needs painting, but... er... I'm poor. I had planned to have him and the Trad. Arab painted by Kathy McKenzie, but since she passed away I'm out of ideas. I loved her work and could afford her paint prices. I've been getting lots of happy quotes for $300 paint jobs for an SM, and I'm getting desperate. Who are some of your favorite artists?

  3. Anon--I feel your pain. Nearly all my favorite finishwork artists have closed books. On the rare occasion that they offer painting slots, I usually can't afford the (well deserved) prices. Fortunately, I am able to work out the occasional trade. Nothing makes me happier than a tack addicted painter! As far as suggestions go, you might want to check out Sheila Anderson Bishop, Hilary Schwafel, Chris Nandell and Sheryl Liesure. They all do nice work and I believe they are still taking orders.

Teresa--He is even nicer in person. I know you're not a big fan of little hairy things, but the paintwork on this guy is exceptional. I am so happy to have him!

THANK YOU for the link to Sonja's new blog, I miss seeing her work and her ads too, so it's lovely to go see what she's now up to.

GORGEOUS little Otto, I'm green with envy, hehe!

  5. Hi Jennifer - that was sweet of you to dedicate a post to Dagobert, and I'm so glad he's gone to a good home where he will be enjoyed :).

And, that was kind of you to post a link to my blog - thank you! Even though I'm not involved with the hobby to any extent (other than trying to sell my collection!), I still enjoy dropping by hobby folks' blogs to see what they're up to.

    Hi Teresa and Kelly!
