Field research

Here's a question that popped up on the NaMoPaiMo Facebook page this week.

As luck would have it, I know a horse with a foot like that.
I have lots of pictures of her feet showing the partial sock...
and bicolored hoof, but none showing the color of her sole on that foot as opposed to the others.
Clearly, some field research was in order!
And since our fields have been looking like this lately...
Clearly, some grooming was also in order!
I spent a lot of time on her hooves, making sure they were as clean as I could reasonably get them for the big reveal.
Olive is about two thirds of the way through her current shoeing cycle. Usually, when you see pictures of the bottoms of a horse's hooves they are freshly trimmed and extremely clean. These are neither.
For comparison's sake, here's one of the all white feet.
Here's the dark foot.
And this is the bicolored hoof. Interestingly, it's more dark than light on the hoof wall, but more light than dark on the sole. I never noticed that before
Of course, once she was all cleaned up, we had to go for a little toodle!
That was a good question, Ashley. Thanks for asking!
