Horses are like husbands. You always hope the current one is the last one. Sometimes, however, it just isn't meant to be.
Karen's Missouri Foxtrotter, Roy, is one of the sweetest, goofiest, most geldingest geldings I've ever had the pleasure to know. If personality was everything, he would have stayed here forever. Everyone loved him.
Unfortunately, in his heart of hearts, Roy didn't want to be the horse Karen needed. He is so good at so many things, and Karen tried so hard to make it work. She tried and she tried, but really, somethings just aren't meant to be.
Yesterday, Roy left for his new home. Today, Karen's new horse arrives. I am sad. I am excited. It's all good.

Those are great pictures! Cannot wait to see the new horse!
ReplyDeleteMy heart jumped into my throat when I saw the post title and I was almost afraid to look.
ReplyDeleteRoy seemed like a nice horse and it's too bad it didn't work out (but I'm glad the solution in reality wasn't where my mind went originally.)
I actually worried about that, which is why I used the word "farewell" in the title. Generally speaking, when it's a death notice - for either an animal or a human - I go with the name and nothing else.
DeleteThat kicking pic is something else. Happy trails Roy and may the next horse be the unicorn she's looking for.
ReplyDeleteWell--I'm gonna be the odd person out and make my comments be model horse related (in honor of NaMoPaiMo)
ReplyDelete1st--I wish somebody (or anybody) or Breyer would either paint or release a model in Roy's beautiful palomino color!! (I love the 1st photo, the Xmas photo and his head shot)
2ndly--I wish the next time someone complains about the way Breyer does dapples on the models that they do release, that someone would refer them to this post (and others like them) because they obviously haven't seen "real" horses---and I have an acquaintance that has Belgian horses whose dapples
would put Roy's to shame!
Roy's a beautiful horse!! I'm sad to hear that he's gone to a new home(Isn't he Olive's boy friend??)--but I hope he does well in his new place and Karen's new horse suits her better!!
