Mud season

Last weekend's storm dropped more than a foot of heavy, wet snow on Aurora, Colorado. Then, in typical Colorado fashion, the sun came out and all the snow melted really fast, creating a sea of mud.

Horses like mud.
They like it a lot.
Yuck! So disgusting!
Santana wasn't as gross as Ranger, but he was still decidedly crusty.
Here's yesterday's pre-ride before...
and the post-ride after. Much better!
Since it's also shedding season, here's the obligatory hair-on-the-ground shot. It's mostly Santana's, but Scarlett contributed some, too.
The trails were almost as muddy as the horses, with little patches of snow in the shady areas...
and lots of water on the river bottom.
We saw faraway deer...
and a faraway coyote...
who wasn't bothered when Santana and I rode over to him to take his picture.
We also saw a squadron of four helicopters...
which flew right over our heads. So cool!
It was a nice day for a ride.
I'm heading out to the barn again today. Here's hoping for another good ride and maybe a little less mud!

  1. I laughed out loud when I saw the first picture... pretty much *all* the horses at my barn look like that!

  2. There is this pony at my barn who is unrideable and never gets brushed :( so he is like completely mud packed
