It's been more than five years since the last time I showed performance at a live show.
A lot of things have happened since then.
My kids have graduated...
and moved out. This one's actually a homeowner now.
I got a job,
a third dog...
and a horse.
I travelled abroad twice.
We moved Seth's parents into an assisted living community near us.Seven months later, we said goodbye to Chloe.
I'm currently going through a similar experience with my own mother.
It doesn't help that somewhere in the midst of that, I lost a lot of my best performance stuff in the basement flood of 2022.
I kind of figured that performance showing was a part of my old life. It was something I remembered fondly and vaguely hoped to again someday, but not now. Definitely not now.
Then two things happened.
First, a whole bunch of people got together and bought me a really fabulous, performance friendly model horse. Then, my friend, Heather, decided to hold a second edition of her Candyland Live show.
This mostly yellow card show also includes a ten class Themed Performance Challenge.
If there was ever a time for me to come out of retirement, this is it. Things are still very volatile in California, so I don't know how much time I'll have to prepare. Still, I have paid my entry fee and started planning. Fingers crossed. This could be really fun.

Doing the things we love keeps us grounded during the times of sadness.
