The candy plan, part one

The Themed Performance Division class list at Heather Malone's Candyland Live show is loosely defined and highly interpretive. The show packet describes it this way: This division is about creativity, versatility and depth. There are only ten classes and no real limits on set up time, size or complexity. There are no wrong answers, go for it!

I have already brainstormed ideas for most of the classes. Because my time is limited, I am trying, as much as possible, to use things I already own. For the fourth class, 21 Jump Street, this is especially easy. I built a Candyland jump for the 2019 version of this show, and I am delighted to use it again.
Assuming I can find all the jump pieces - and I'm pretty sure I can - this one should be easy to put together.
Although, I am weirdly reluctant to use tack on model Olive that I would not use on real Olive. If there's time - ha! - I'd like to make her a nice little English hackamore.
Moving on. The next "easy" class is Once Upon a Time in the West. Here's how Heather describes this one: The West says it all. Or does it? Get as western as you want! Modern, historical, show style or natural, it’s up to you. I am envisioning a cattle class set-up, one that requires a dodging right heifer. The good news is, I already have one of those in my collection. The bad news is, she's pretty rough.
Or at least she was, because I am currently in the process of giving her a brand new look.
So far, I have refined her ears and legs, filled a million pinholes and done a lot of prepping.
It's always challenging to know how much is enough. I want her to be as nice as she can be, but also, I want her to be done for the show.
While I was pawing through the cattle box, I found another Herden project cow. This one is almost done. I'm not sure why I didn't finish her previously, but I will now.
I have big plans and just two months to make them happen. Will I succeed? Only time will tell, but so far, I am enjoying the process.

  1. I can't tell you how excited I am to see performance posts again!! I started reading this blog way back in the day (saddle rats!!) And it was the biggest factor in getting me more involved in the model horse world (I have yet to make it to a liveshow)

  2. Love Herden sculpts. At the MSU Pavilion, where we happen to show in August, there is a trophy case with trophies featuring, I'm pretty sure, her sculpts of Beef and Dairy cows, a goat, sheep and a swine. How I'd love to have those trophy toppers!!!
