The area after the giant lakes almost looked like the beach.
Almost but not quite.
Despite being wet, the footing was good here and we were able to tölt and canter. I was delighted to discover that although Glóinn was slower than Tinna, he was just as handy and his gaits were even more comfortable.
By this point in the ride, my face was hurting, not from the wind but from smiling so much.
We reached the dunes and started to climb.
Higher and higher.
And then there it was.
The ocean!
We rode straight to it, making deep tracks in the soft, black sand.
We reached the hard packed area between the waves and soft sand.
Then I had to put my camera away because it was to gallop.
When we reached the other end, we took turns galloping for the camera. In this picture I am holding Karin's mount and hand horse, while she videed Hanna and Tinna.
Karin also took still photos of all of us. Here's Karen and I on Glóinn and Lilja,Hanna on Tinna...
and Hedwig and Jo on Störmfrid and Gullblesi.
Before we left, we rode the horses into the waves.
Glóinn was very !!! about this, but I'm pretty sure he got his toes at least a little bit wet. After that, it was a short ride to a construction filled parking lot where the Eldhestar truck and trailer were waiting.
I gave Glóinn a big hug before I loaded him up.
This was the most fabulous ride. I loved everything about it - the mares and foals, the giant lakes, the beach, the horses, the people. It was exactly what I was hoping for when I first dreamed of going to Iceland.
