Ride four, part one

Our first ride in Iceland took us around a lake in the horsey, outer suburbs of Reykjavik. The next day we rode to the beach, and the third day we rode through the highlands. All of those rides had a well defined trajectory, a place we were going and a way to get there. Ride four was different.

Instead of going somewhere specific, we just sort of rambled along the roads and trails of the volcanic Thjórsárdalur valley.
We started at an equestrian center...
and rode outward...
on roads...
and paths.
There was water.
There's always water in Iceland.
There were trees.
There were rocks.
Seth calls these ankle breakers. Fortunately, no ankles were broken on this day.
There were houses.
There were ponies in pastures on the side of the road.
Some of the ponies followed us. Always a favorite.
There were multiple rest stops...
and multiple horse changes.
There was a lunch break with another weird Icelandic sandwich.
This one was bacon, red peppers and pickles.
There was tölting.
There was a racetrack.
Above all else, there were the best horses...
and the best people.
Hanna on Glóinn, Jo on Gnótt, Hedwig on Hreggur and Karen on Störmfrid
More on that, in the next post.
