Jackie Radwanski's scene class entry at the Second Copperfox Tour Event in Devon, England was so spectacular, it deserves a post of its own. Entitled Running out of Room, this diorama is a perfect depiction of a hobby room. The only thing that's missing is the dust! Thanks again, Jackie, for allowing me to share your photos. ReplyDeleteHow in the HECK did she do that???? Seriously! The little details on things LIFE-SIZE are hard to do, never mind in teeny-tiny mode. How did she get/make all those weensy models, for starters? I am flabbergasted! And the little totes! And the micro-mini mini models! I hope she won Grand Champion Super Poo-Bah or whatever else they called the overall mega-winner of the day...

This beyond brilliant diorama should be preserved forever, in a Museum of the Model Horse Hobby, and both fans and the public can come and be stunned by the imagination and skill it represents!
DeleteJackie, what scale did you use? Is it to be 1:9 or 1:12. I just love it! It captures the concept of "miniature". How are these judged? Congratulations!
DeleteIt has to be bigger than 1/12, due to the mini whinnies, they represent a horse in 1/12 scale being 15 inches inches at the withers in real life. Our traditional horses are about 6 inches. I have to use small train scale horses for the traditional in my plan. I love how she made the tiny Breyer boxes, I can tell you from experience that is an amazing job! What is happening is the scale is not compared to real horses, but the mini whinnies are being used to represent a traditional Breyer horse. So the 1.5 inch withers of the M.W. are representing the 6 inch withers of the Trad horses. Or 1 quarter scale of the 1:9 scale. Now my major problem is I go by the withers, not scales. So, for example if you take a horse that is 1:9 scale and his withers are 6 inches tall, that would make him 13.5 hands tall. I don't know too many "horses" that are 13.5 hands tall. The same problem with Stablemate's being 1:32, if you take a Stablemate's withers of 2 or 2.25 inches and multiply that by 32 you have a 16 to 18 hand horse. The extreme is the Mini Whinnie, which at 1.5 and supposedly 1:64 you get a 24 hand horse. In my opinion the trad are more 1:10, the Stablemates are more a 1:28 and the Mini Whinnies are more a 1:48. As a tack maker Ms Buxton has probably figured out to make the tack to fit each model, as the back length and head sizes are not standard across the Breyer scales, or any of the resins out there. I have spent a lifetime trying to find dolls for my Traditional sized horses. A 6 to 7 inch tall doll with articulations. The closest I have found is Spiderman, but you have to deal with his face and all the spider web lines, lol!

DeleteRegarding scale - it's Breyer Trad scale. I used some dolls house 1/12 scale items as well ... it's a right mix of bit and bobs ... lol
Imagine the amount of time to place those tiny horses and items. This is so cute and describes most collector's shelves.

DeleteTo answer the question about scale - it's Breyer Trad size (1/9th) scale but there are some 1/12th scale items plus a few other bits and bobs that I'v collected up over the years. The horses are a mixture of scales as well.
What are those horses that are smaller than the mini whinnes?
