My Facebook feed is filled with stories about Breyerfest. People are making lists, planning itineraries, packing cars and driving interstates. Everyone is giddy with excitement. And who wouldn't be? It's Breyerfest!
I have to admit, it makes me a little bit jealous.
Fortunately, my in-box has been filled with lots of happy emails that help to fill the not-going-to-Breyerfest void. If you're also spending this weekend at home, perhaps these pictures and stories will cheer you up, too!
First up is a lovely little Schleich pony harness made by Karin from Slovenia.
Karin has only been making tack for two months (!) and credits my blog (particularly the Pattern Making post) for helping her get started. I'd love to share the glory, but it's obvious that Karin has a real talent for this. Keep going, Karin! You're doing great. The next group of photos come from Elizabeth in Ohio. Elizabeth is a 4H member who recently recently completed a project on the Model Horse Hobby.
Elizabeth created a tri-fold poster board that describes three segments of model horsedom--Creating (customs, resins, tack and props), Collecting (original finish and artist resin) and Showing (halter, performance and photo shows). Lots of photos from the Braymere blog were used to illustrate each section. How many do you recognize?
Elizabeth's project won an Excellent ribbon (highest honors) and was awarded the Best of Day Senior (14+) prize for Self Determined project. Additionally, she was chosen to compete again at the State Fair on August 4th. If you live in Ohio and happen to be going to the fair, be sure congratulate Elizabeth and thank her for being such a wonderful ambassador for the model horse hobby!
Thanks again to Karin and Elizabeth for sharing their stories. I still wish I was heading to Lexington, but these little happies make staying home a lot more fun!

Good for you Elizabeth!
ReplyDelete..I wish I was at Breyerfest to. We can both mourn.

Yah, finally found someone else who makes tack for schleich :)
ReplyDeleteI see a picture of "The Victrix" on her poster. :) Represent!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me a whole lot better about not going, and Omg that harness and tri-fold are amazing. Maybe we all need to get together and have a " I'm not going to Breyerfest festival"
ReplyDeleteOh,thank you Jennifer for a half of this post about my tack!i really aprishiate your opinion about my tack.
ReplyDeleteAnd i cant make stitch marks becaouse this is fake leather :(
Greetings from slovenia
Karin
(Sorry for my vocabulary)
Don't worry about stitch marks. Those are kind of a "bonus" feature. It's nice if they're there, but it's so much more important to get the big things like proportion and scale correct, especially with minis. I always tell people to concentrate on the big stuff first. You can always add details later.
DeleteAnd do try to find some leather. It's much easier to work with!
:)
Thanks!
DeleteAnd for leather: i vas looking a lot for leather but i couldnt find it anyvhere :(
Try charity/thrift shops for old second-hand purses and bags, that's where I get all my leather from! It's cheap, usually really thin and easy to work with and the money spent goes to a good cause!
DeleteOh,thanks :)
DeleteGreat project! I live in OH, so if I go to the fair, I'll look your project up. For those of us who aren't going to Kentucky this weekend, we should do something fun. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteI am going to go horse riding terrain for 2 days!Yay :)
ReplyDeleteLast year during Breyerfest week, I hosted an Arts and Crap day at my house. That was a lot of fun, but this year I don't feel so ambitious. Probably I'll spend the weekend pretty much how I've spent the summer--hanging out with my kids and dogs and horse and husband.
ReplyDeleteSuper project! I still remember doing mine and what the subjects were. Won the top award at State for the one I did on Lippizaners!
ReplyDeleteI am also impressed with the job Karin did on the little Schliech's harness. Keep up the great work, Karin!
Thanks ;)
DeleteI miss Arts & Craps...
ReplyDeleteI doubt I'll ever make it to Breyerfest being on the other side of the pond but I can still appreciate all the photos people take whilst there!
ReplyDeleteOh btw, your link to the pattern-making post goes straight to Schelich's home page! :P
Huh, wonder how that happened? It's fixed now. Thanks for letting me know!
