When I go to a horse show, I spend almost as much time looking at the tack as I do the horses. In particular, I find jumper bridles to be endlessly fascinating. Here are some of the jumper bridles (and horses!) that caught my eye during the recent Summer in the Rockies Hunter/Jumper show at the the Colorado Horse Park in Parker, Colorado. Enjoy!

What the heck kind of bits are #3 and the last one using??? I have never seen that before! The bit after the hackamore photo is weird as well, but I at least have seen that before (forget what they're called).
ReplyDeleteYep, the jumper folks sure use some interesting contraptions on their horses. The bay fourth from the bottom seems to have a plain rubber snaffle, although he looks pretty fired up. You're right, very interesting!
That's a Wilson snaffle. I saw several at this show, which surprised me. It's not a bit I've seen much in the past. The chestnut is wearing a loop ring snaffle. The mouthpiece slides along the rings, giving it a mild gag action.
ReplyDeleteI'm also going to point out two non-bit trends worth mentioning: lots of standing martingales and no bling browbands.
The first horse reminds me of the Strapless Breyer Traditional horse. Don't know why....just does.
