Three good reasons

The newest issue of Model Horse Performance arrived in my mailbox yesterday and it is absolutely wonderful. If you're not subscribing to this magazine, here are three good reasons why you should change that right away. 1. Great performance pictures. The inside front and back covers look like this. 'Nuff said! 2. Wonderful how to articles. This issue of Model Horse Performance features English tackmaking tutorials by Sarah Tregay and Linda White. Linda's "How to make a English Saddle" is particularly excellent. This five page article provides a complete set of illustrated instructions plus the actual pattern pieces. Linda's method is a bit less complicated than mine, but the basics are quite similar. If you are interested in making English saddles, this is a great place to start!3. Shannon Granger's continuing leather carving series. I am really enjoying these articles.Learning how to carve leather well is one of my long term hobby goals. Last year I was fortunate enough to get a carving lesson from Erin Corbett, but sadly, I haven't had the time to practice most of what she taught me. To date most of my carving has consisted of little "doodles" like these. That's better than nothing I suppose, but I am ever hopeful that Shannon's articles will give me the extra push to move away from play tooling and toward something a bit more serious.

So there you have it. It doesn't matter if you are a new tackmaker hoping to learn the basics or an experienced tackmaker looking to expand her horizons or simply someone who likes looking at good performance pictures... Model Horse Performance has something for everyone. Please visit http://modelhorseperformance.com/ for subscription information.

  3. I do not make model tack but I suspect I would probably be good at it, especially because I have tooled leather in the past and have a HUGE collection of stamps thanks to my grandfather.

  4. I agree this is an excellent issue of this great magazine! I really like the saddle pad instructions too; it's quite a bit different than how I make them and looks like it might be better. I want to try it!
