Grace's BCC entry

Today's featured BreyerFest Best Customs Contest Fantasy entry is small in size, but definitely not scope. Thank you, Grace Bisnath, for sharing Kuduri and Kanisi's enchanted world with us!

Kuduri and Kanisi

by Grace Bisnath

Introducing my entry in the BCC 2024 Fantasy Division: 💙 Kuduri & Kanisi 💙
Kuduri and Kanisi are ethereal beings, serving as beacons drawing us into a light, peaceful, and imaginative realm, freeing our minds from the bonds of darkness that can surround us in this imperfect world. Kanisi's frolic boasts her happiness and freedoms, providing us with hope, reconnecting us with simple pleasures, and drawing us into this glimpse of a precious moment in a perfect paradise. Kuduri proudly follows her cherished young one, with light-heartednes and fulfillment. Against All Odds in an imperfect world, Kuduri & Kanisi draw us into a place of perfect peace, if even just for a moment.
The names Kuduri and Kanisi-Nya (Kanisi) allude to the Kudu and Nyala, which heavily inspired their markings. They inhabit an enchanted forest with a sparkling stream, abundant flowers, and butterflies.
My first Breyer was the G2 Appaloosa mold. Especially with Kuduri, there was something sentimental about holding pretty true to the original mold, which in my youth was the most captivating, well crafted, and nearly magical model horse I had ever laid eyes on.
I took some major risks with Kuduri & Kanisi by going small-scale, and choosing to do minimal resculpting amid a sea of drastic customs in every division, along with trying something completely new to me: mohair. Kuduri's tail was quite the task to navigate hairing with the curvature, length, and mohair fluff!
Ultimately, I decided on these things because I believe in trying new things, bigger doesn't always mean better, and as far as sculpting, the original molds depict the emotions of tranquility and happiness that I wished to convey. Considering this, in lieu of extreme customization, I believe the modifications do enhance the originals to present a newly imagined piece, allowing them to shine beautifully for an overall enchanting entry into another realm.
Most days, my only opportunity to work was late at night. I've lost count of just how many nights I had only three or four hours of sleep. I believe it's worth it, though, to try for BCC at least once!
Congratulations, Grace, on a job well done. This was definitely worth it!

  1. This is the most unique and prettiest inspiration from the antelope and deer family, which I love too.

  2. Some of the nicest “hair jobs” I’ve seen! Even though not realistic in color, I really admire how the hair looks/lays/flows. The overall project is just beautiful! Good luck!
