Erika's BCC entry

Erika Isbell's 2023 BCC entry was big

Really, really, really big.

That's a tough act to follow, even for her, but I'm delighted to report that this year's follow up, while normal in size and scope, is every bit as impressive. Here is Erika's Styx Season.

The Making of Styx Season
by Erika Isbell

This year I really wanted to *push* my sculpting, and I am so so happy with what I was able to create. I have been making a lot of shortcuts and “assumptions” in my sculpting so far, but I really took the time to slow down and *study* the various muscles and shapes that I often overlook!

He started as a Breyer “Smoky” who was sanded way down- that wonky head was HARD to see past for a while there.
This sweet boy is, of course, a portrait of my newest horse- Styx.
He is still pretty timid but opening up to such an amazing little pony, so I wanted a playful and carefree attitude for his model- a feeling I hope the real boy will relax into soon.
It definitely wasn’t an *easy* color to attempt, but I’m really pleased with the details I achieved!!
Congratulations, Erika, on a job well done. I love Styx!

  1. Perfect model to pick for a glow-up, and gorgeous color. I love pintaloosas.
