Aimee's BCC entry

I keep thinking I am ready to wrap up the BreyerFest Best Customs Contest posts, and then another amazing piece hits my inbox. Today's discovery is by Aimee "Tyr" Skee of Fyredance Studio. She writes: This is "Elegance". She started off as a Classic clearware Baltazar.

My idea was to tell a story about this beautiful and delicate figurine - a peacock, because what is more elegant than a peacock? - that was sitting inside a dusty and decaying library. It is uncertain why this pretty thing is there. Maybe it is a treasure from a worldly travel? But I wanted something to happen with the figurine, too, since it had been sitting there so long. That's when I decided maybe that the beautiful peacock was decaying too.
I thought it would be neat to try to capture the moment frozen in time when its tail was falling apart, similar to how you would see a string of beads fall in slow motion.
The horse is painted in a combination of shiny micas and glass paints, with added gems. She is solid resin on the inside so there is no danger of her falling off her throne. Each feather on the horse was created individually with resin, then attached one to add more dimension to the figure.
The books - and the pages beneath them - were salvaged from an old, damaged set of encyclopedias. The pages have significant words that hold some meaning to me.
Congratulations, Aimee. I love your beautiful, decaying peacock! She is unique, mysterious and well done, definitely a worthy addition to the always tough BCC Fantasy Division.

  1. Mysterious as well as unique: That's a pretty rare combination! The added element of books is thrilling. Yes, worthy.
