One of my favorite parts of traveling is meeting up with the local hobby group for food and conversation. That's pretty much the first thing I did when I got to Sacramento.

This was a particularly enjoyable meet up. We talked until the restaurant closed, and then we talked some more standing outside in the parking lot. The conversation covered a whole host of topics - both hobby related and not - but one of our main focuses was the BreyerFest Best Customs Contest.
We discussed this year's entries in general and Lauren Wood's Most Extreme entry in particular.
This is "JOYLEAP", a wild mustang mare leaping off the narrow path of a steep cliffside to the dry stream bed below.
Believe it or not, she used to be a Breyer Family Arabian mare, although Lauren says there is less than two square inches of original surface area. The rest is completely covered in epoxy.
Lauren writes: I wasn't sure I'd make the deadline, and as of Monday, she was actually a completely different color. I just couldn't shake the picture in my head. I knew she wanted to be palomino, which is unfortunately my nemesis color. I've never been able to achieve the rich golden coat I was picturing.
Thankfully, a call with mentor, Laura Skillern Sailer, gave me the encouragement - and balls - to start over. I'm so glad I did.
Congratulations, Lauren. That is a fabulous FAM! And thank you, Northern California hobby friends, for making me feel so welcome. What a fun night that was!
