Continuing on with our tour of this year's BreyerFest Best Customs Contest entries, here's one from the Most Extreme Custom category.
This is Endangered by Bethany Wurl of Nashua Creations.
Bethany writes: "Endangered" started out as a Breyer Smarty Jones.
He is rare white Marwari stallion startled by a Great Indian Bustard.
In the 1950s, the Marwari breed was on the verge of extinction and is now mainly exclusive to India.
The Great Indian Bustard is a Critically Endangered large bird once common on the dry plains of the Indian subcontinent.
As for the land the two meet on, drought has affected nearly two-thirds of India from 2020 to 2022.
Both the bird and the horse feel threatened by each other.
They are "Endangered".
"Endangered" was painted in hair by hair details in oils.
The custom base is on a maple burl slab with sculpted cracked ground and dust clouds.
I love everything about this. The concept is wonderful, the execution masterful. It's filled with both motion and emotion.
Congratulations and good luck, Bethany. Endangered is fantastic!
