Coming in from the cold

A storm was blowing in when I turned out our three horses yesterday. When I drove back to the barn a couple hours later, it was nearly white-out conditions.

As per usual, I brought Kaffi in first. He was way in the back of the gelding field so I had to walk by all his friends to get him.
Everyone was covered with snow, especially on their manes, tail tops and ears.
Also, whiskers.
Heh.
Once Kaffi was safely tucked into his stall, I trudged out to the mare field for Sage and Luna. Most of the girls were hunkered down behind the shed.
Not Sage! She was still running around in the snow with Helix and Breezy. I called to her, and all three of them immediately headed my way.
And then just kept on walking!
Eventually, Sage stopped and looked back at me.
"Come on, Mom. It's time."
I snapped a couple selfies of our snow covered selves.
Then I tied the halter onto her head and led her back to the stall.
After that, it was one more trip out to the field for Luna.
Before I left, I peeked in at Sage. She was out in her run enjoying the snow.
Oh, funny girl! You are such a Wyoming mustang.
That was quite the storm! It's possible I had a few choice words about the conditions while I was out there, but also, those smiles are real. It's such a privilege having a horse - or three - to care for. Wind, rain, sleet or snow, the barn is my happy place. I am always glad to be there.

  1. Choice smiles,... :) Thanks for the warning. This is why I brought in the plants.

  2. Thank you for sharing your moments at the stable!

The pictures before, where Sage is running are so wonderfull. It's truly lovely to see.

When you have horses yourself, these little things start to take on enormous significance. You're right, the stable is a happy place. I can also just stand there for hours and watch what the horses are doing. It makes me happy to see them happy! And it's fascinating to see their individual personalities.
