In January 2020, I attended a NaMoPaiMo prepping party at Charlotte Pijnenburg's home in Middelbeers, the Netherlands. That is one of my absolute favorite hobby memories.
Today there was another painting party in the Netherlands. I wasn't able to make this one, but my friend, Anne Veeneman–van der Weel, sent a full report. Thank you, Anne!
Team Holland Painting Party
by Anne Veeneman–van der Weel
Today some of the Dutch hobbyists came together at Demi de Rijk's grandma's house in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands.
We have hobby days there about twice a year. The space is perfect, really. We use the heated coffee room in the stables, overlooking the field with the ponies.
The Haflinger cross is Demi's thirty year old horse and the Shetland Ponies belong to her grandparents.
We met up mid morning. There was coffee and cake, and we petted the horses.
Then we set up our work stations.
Dawn Derksen, Sanne Grandjean and myself worked on our NaMoPaiMo models.
Dawn and I are both doing sabino on a micro. Sanne is working her magic on a KS Arts venti model.
I'm a little unsure about the sabino effect on my model currently but I'm going to trust the process and just keep going. At least I'm having fun, so that's a win!
Ingrid van Leeuwen and Demi were making tack. Ingrid is building a western saddle.
Demi actually intended to work on her NaMo horse but forgot her model at home (but did bring all her painting materials). Thankfully she found a tack project in her tote.
Marcelino Jacobs's NaMoPaiMo horse is in primer and his next steps involve an airbrush, so he intentionally brought another customizing project.
Anna Dobrowolska-Oczko was sketching the ponies and Demi's dog.
We had Marjolein van Baarle and Eline drop in for a while as well. They live somewhat nearby and had bought/sold models, to/from several of us. Perfect opportunity to handover models and stay for a long chat!
Everybody had a good time and despite chatting A LOT we also got a lot of painting/tackmaking/customizing/sketching done.
I always love Demi's hobby days because they are a perfect mix of hobbying, socializing and real horses.
Thank you so much for sharing, Anne. That sounds like another perfect hobby day. I really hope someday I make back to the Netherlands so I can party with you again!
