If Sage was a riding horse, the last prompt for the barn's photo scavenger hunt would have been an easy one. I would have saddled up her and headed down the trail to one of the area overpasses. That would have made for a perfect Under Something photo!
Alas, all the overpasses are a little - or a lot - outside our comfortable walking radius. My next thought was similar but smaller scale.
Too small as it turned out. I could have fit her under there, but not safely. And so it went. I had lots of ideas, but - for various reasons - none of them were workable. I was lamenting this fact to my barn buddy, Allie, while an eagled circled high in the air over our outdoor ring.
"Oh," I sighed. "If only he would come a little lower so I could get him in the same frame with Sage."
Of course, he didn't, but then something else equally wonderful happened. Another boarder walked by with a shiny, black, mylar balloon.
"Hey!" I exclaimed. "Is that for Under Something?"
"No," they responded. "It's Inflated, although I guess it could be both."
I laughed and asked, "Can I borrow it?"
The answer was yes, so the next order of business was introducing Sage to a balloon.
She was - as usual - completely unbothered, so it wasn't long before I had it clipped to her forelock."I will stand here all day if you keep giving me food."
Just as I broke out the real camera, the wind picked up,
That balloon went everywhere but up.
On the rare occasions when it did go over Sage's head, the shadows were problematic.
Eventually, Allie took a whip and started pushing the balloon in the right direction.Success!
Of all the scavenger hunt photos, this was probably the one I had to work the hardest for. Thanks to Allie for her help, and also to Angelo, Carol, Karen and Seth who were instrumental in so many of the other pictures. This truly did take a village!
Thanks also to Linda for putting this together. I had so much fun with this, and so much fun doing this with Sage. She is the perfect horse for this kind of challenge, and I am lucky to have her.

I am so entertained by how much Sage does Not Care about all these shenanigans. I foresee her being excellent with kids and new riders!
ReplyDeleteSomeday I'm sure there will be something Sage finds objectionable, but for the life of me, I can not imagine what it will be. So far she is Sage Does Not Care for life.
DeleteMy guess is that it's something that will never be relevant to her life. Like coconut crabs.
