Welcome Winslow

Today is the second day of February. In a normal year, this space would be flooded with pictures of model horses getting their first coats of paint.

This is not a normal year, and today was really not a normal day.

Today was Horse Day.

And this is the horse.
He arrived mid morning with his owner, Pam, and one of my oldest and best friends, Trisha, who masterminded this arrangement.
We unloaded him and let him look around a little before tucking him into Olive's his new stall. Then we stayed with him while he got his bearings. Fortunately, he's a really chill, sensible kind of horse. It didn't take long.
We went to lunch, then circled back to the barn. There were a lot of hugs and thanks yous before Pam and Trisha got back on the road.
I thought Winslow might like to stretch his legs and get a more complete look at his new digs, so we went for a walk with Karen and Kaffi.
He looked around a little, but there were no stops, stares or dragon snorts. I think he might be the anti-Olive.
Likes to eat the same weeds, though!
I showed him the indoor arena.
No problem.
Then I turned him out.
He rolled, and I was delighted to discover a big, unexpected belly spot.
So cute!
He continued to be very quiet, but we did witness a little burst of energy.
So cute.
So very, very cute.
Needs bigger ears, though
I stayed with him most of the day and went back after dinner for a bed check. He'd eaten all his dinner, drank a bucket of water and was happy to see me.
All in all, this felt like a really successful first day.
Winslow is not my forever horse. He's going back to Pam eventually, but he's a really good right now horse. I am so thankful.
Tomorrow, I promise there will be a NaMoPaiMo post!

    1. He's very much a winter coat palomino right now. I expect he looks significantly different in the summer.

  2. What kind of breed is he? How old? Do you know a bit of his history? I'm curious and very happy for you!

  6. That's a lot of activity for the first day. It's great that he went along with everything new so easily.
He's obviously a very nice guy.
