Although the majority of the models in the NaMoPaiMo Winners Circle are realistic colors, this year - like every year - there are also a significant number of fantasy and decorator pieces in the mix.
Longtime readers know that's not usually my jam. However, there are exceptions.
This year, Andrea Funke's Stone ISH is absolutely one of the exceptions.Andrea writes: I did it! Meet "Intuition"!
My two main goals for the year were: 1) hand-paint a horse with Golden high-flow acrylics and 2) paint a horse that looks like he could have stepped out of one of my art journals.
Considering two weeks ago I was ready to chuck him against the wall, I'm incredibly happy with how he turned out!
Once I leaned into the quirks of the high-flow paint and started painting more intuitively, he started to jive. I love doing dots and lines on gradient backgrounds in my journals, so this guy is like a 3-D art journal page.
He'll need to be glossed yet, but February in Minnesota is not the best time for that!
I definitely will be doing more of these journal-inspired horses in the future!
Congratulations, Andrea. It takes a lot to make me like a decorator, and I don't just like this guy, I love him. You are a winner!

Lor' help me, I had a completely wrong idea of this horse's scale. For once I'm delighted to be wrong. He's beautiful.
