You would think that someone who is long past school age, who does not work at a school and whose only kid is still in school lives seventy miles away would not be affected by spring break.
You would be wrong.
Last week was spring break for most Colorado schools. My boss and several of my co-workers were on vacation, leaving me as the adult in charge.
Ugh.

Praise be, they're all back now. I did not have to work today, and the first order of business was finishing this cow.
She is a first generation Herden dodging heifer, that I have owned for more than twenty years. I pulled her out last fall, in preparation for Heather Malone's Candyland Live Show. Although painted, she was basically a body, with no prepping to speak of and a giant drip of paint on her neck. I stripped her and started over. Ultimately, I chose not use her at the show, but I continued working on her anyway.
I couldn't decide what color to paint her, so I googled "cutting horse cows" and found my way to an article in which a noted trainer said they liked to choose a "white cow with a soft eye" to best show off their horse in competition.
I liked the sound of that, so here she is, soft eyed and white. Here's a quick mock-up of the performance entry that didn't happen... Maybe someday.
A lot of people are fine with these old cows as is, but I really think it's worth the effort to clean them up and give them modern paint jobs. Just look at the difference between her and her equally vintage sister!
One project down, a million more to go! I am so glad spring break is over. I'm in the mood to finish things!

I wish I could finish things! I never would've thought of a white calf. Go for it, keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteShe turned out beautiful. I love the white coat!
