If for no reason except I took 'em so I'm going to share 'em, here are the rest of my photos from the Rose Bowl Flea Market. As always, I wonder: What would you have bought?
Jennifer--you are truly a person after my own heart!! I *love* antiquing (Altho there aren't many flea markets in my area any more!) While I would have been looking for "the big score" too--I'm not opposed to picking up knick knacks as well! If I had gone with you and Tara, I may have bought those baby orangutans (depending on price) I also liked CactusAss(btw--you *can* bring cactus home on a plane if you have it boxed!! I and a friend of mine did so we went to Arizona last month!) From the photos you posted today, I would have been interested in the flocked camel cactus, the turtle, *definitely * the 3 bronze pack horses on the base, ummmm--the white bull terrier (love terriers!) would like to know what mold the palomino China horse was aanndd maybe the black rolling horse?? Is that enough stuff?? haha!!
For me it would have been the reddish box in the photo of the three black (glass?) stylized horses. That box was made in Shanghai sometime in the middle of last century out of brass, rosewood, and nephrite jade. They were produced for export to the west and are jewelry boxes. The inside, if undamaged, likely has dividers lined in silk in one of several very bright colors. They were made in many different sizes and configurations. I find them once in a while at flea markets here in the midwest, but I bet I'd have more luck on the west coast.
So equine-oriented thou art, Just like me! Altho I wouldn't've bought them, I'm intrigued by the horse art in photos 22 and 23: the large bronze and the china-nymph-on-white-rearing. I *would* have bought the stuffed-silk fringe-tailed brightly-colored Christmas tree horses (I have some)(ph. 10). This post strongly reminds me of the Tucson Gem Show, but with the added bonus of Horse Shaped Objects!
Second to last photo, the anatomy on the racehorses is off… no, the anatomy is horrible, the legs are all akimbo, and the jockeys?? But it looks like they’re racing on the beach, in the water, and I love it!

Not gonna lie: I kind of wish I had bought the black rolling horse. This house has enough cactus, though. No regrets regarding CactAss.

ReplyDeleteNow I wish I had opened it up and looked! In my defense, that was near the end of the day, and I was tired.

ReplyDeleteThe pack train, the lady-falling-off, and the kitten would get a closer look. Probably only the kitten coming home though. Betsy in WI
ReplyDeleteI probably would have bought the classic Jet Run, since that was my first model

ReplyDeleteMaybe I’d love it more with some touch ups. 🤣
