Today is my mother's birthday. She is ninety.
She is still residing in the skilled nursing facility we moved her into last month. It's going okay, which is about the best we can hope for really.Dementia has taken nearly everything from her.![]() |
| she can still do her crosswords, though |
Mostly, it's just hard.

This was the 1st time that I've ever read a post of yours and really wanted to cry!! We don't know each other outside of the hobby--but when you share a part of your life with your readers, it *really* makes me wish that I lived close enough to offer you a hug!!
ReplyDeleteI can really relate to you as a friend of mine who does my taxes is going through the same thing with his wife.
I don't get to see her as much any more and it *hurts* because she was my running around with buddy!
Every once in awhile ,they'll drop by and deliver any packages that I ordered from Breyer by and we'll get to visit because she still recognizes my face--but I'm trying to take that burden off of him, so who knows now when we'll meet again!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your mom! That's a *real* blessing that's she lived such a long wonderful life!!Life may seem a bit hard and rough for the moment --but that's what prayers are for--to get you through!! And that's what friends are for--to encourage you to hang in there and be a shoulder to cry on if needed!(Having cuddle buddies like horses, dogs and kitty-kitties helps too!)
Happy Birthday to the Moms! Mine turned 80 on Friday.
ReplyDeleteI've never met you, (and possibly never will) but I want you to know that everyone who reads this blog wants to help and support you in any way they can, whether that be raising money for Olive's colic surgery recovery, or posting supportive comments. You are not alone, and Although it may feel really hard right now, you will get through it. Also, Happy Birthday to your mom! It is quite an accomplishment for her to have made it to 90, even if she isn't exactly the same as she used to be. I'm sure that you two have many wonderful memories together, and I hope that they can help get you through this difficult time. 🫂
ReplyDeleteYes, this! 💕
DeleteBoth my mom and my stepmom suffered from Altzheimers and it was hard to watch them slip away. I know what you are going through and my heart aches for you.
ReplyDeleteWalking through the aging process with our parents is a difficult journey. Hugs to you
