The Bunny Museum

This is how I've spent most of the last two weeks.

Between visiting mom and working on the house, there hasn't been a lot of time - or energy - for anything else. 

A couple days ago, however, my sister, her husband and I did carve out a couple hours to visit one of Altadena's quirkiest attractions, the Bunny Museum.

The last time I visited the Bunny Museum was more than a decade ago. Back then, it was located inside its owner's home. 

Now it has its own building on the corner of Lake and Altadena, just two short miles from my mom's house.

The outside is a good indication of things to come.

Lots of rabbits.

Kind of weird.

The inside has even more rabbits...

and is even more weird.

So many rabbits.

Forty six thousand of them.

The kitchen from the original museum has been recreated.

Yum, rabbit wine.

As we were looking at the scrap book on the table, a museum worker walked by and said, "All these children grew up to be serial killers."

Many of the rooms had themes, including Bugs Bunny,

bunnies tv and movies,

bunnies in music,

holiday bunnies...

and of course, the Chamber of Hop Horrors.

There were realistic bunnies,

art bunnies,

stuffed bunnies,

scary bunnies...

and even a couple real bunnies.

Because I'm me, I also found one lone horse in the collection. Ha.

This museum grew out of one couple's obsession with bunnies.

I want to say there's a message here for those of us who fill our lives with small horses, but no.

We're not like this.

I mean, come on.

This is something else entirely.

That said, I really enjoyed our trip to the Bunny Museum.

It was equal parts fun...

and freak show.

Plus, now I feel a lot better about my own collecting habits!
