This morning I woke up early and went to the barn to walk Olive,
take pictures of the new babies...

and watch Sarah ride Bowie.
Midway through my list, I got a message from Karen asking me to come down to the white barn. "I need you to check out King," she wrote. "I think he's colicking."
I walked down there and Karen was walking King. There was no doubt about it. He was definitely colicking. Karen had already talked to his owner and administered Banamine.

We stayed with King until a vet arrived. She did a rectal and ran a nasogastric tube. Eventually it was determined that King needed to be treated in a hospital setting. A trailer was called and Karen and I bowed out. As far as I know, King is doing okay, but that was another very long day.
This is my third month in a row that has started with a colic episode. I am exhausted. I really need this trend to stop.

Holy Cow! Are those babies ever *soooo* cute!!!(I thought Kenlyn had stopped breeding though??)
ReplyDeleteAnyway----Will this ever STOP??!! What the heck is going on??? I'm glad to hear that King seems to be doing alright and that Olive continues to recover well! (After last week, I'm ready for some good news!!)
Yikes!! Would it be wrong of me to mention that Breyerfest is a week or so away??!! Count down ya'll!!
Several years ago, Linda gelded her last stallion, and it looked like this part of her life was over. But never say never, right? Last year she was approached by a stallion owner who wanted to cross their horse - an Irish sporthorse - with some performance Arabians. These babies are the happy result. Even better, they relit the spark. There are five mares in foal to a palomino Thoroughbred stallion for next year.
DeleteSo sorry the colics keep happening. Just a note it’s a wise tail to walk a colic. If the horse is quiet let be. No need to waste valuable energy walking one.
