The spirit of BreyerFest

Here's a guest post for everyone - like me - who is missing the happy distraction of BreyerFest. Thank you, Audrey, for letting me share this and also for being so awesome.

For Kora, With Love

by Audrey Dixon

I'm very excited to share this one with you. It really means a lot to me that I was able to do this.

For those that don't know already, a little girl named Kora took her mini horse, Pixie, to the Kentucky Horse Park this year to do the demos at BreyerFest. On Sunday, she suddenly and tragically lost her favorite equine friend. Her family posted a Go Fund Me page to get the pony home (for which Breyer ended up covering the cost) and then to be able to buy her another pony.

I really felt for this little girl. I lost my incredible Hanoverian mare suddenly a couple years ago, and it's been incredibly difficult for me. I can't imagine going to such an exciting event to do demos with your pony and having it end in such tragedy, especially at six years old.

I contacted her family though the Go Fund Me page - I don't have much money to donate, but I asked if they'd like a custom portrait model of Pixie for Kora. I wanted nothing in return at all. I just wanted to give her something special to remember Pixie. They said she would love it, thought it was a wonderful idea, and so I got to work.

I already had a body model. And thanks to the photos from her family, and huge THANKS to all of you who sent me photos as well - I have just finished Pixie's model. She is done on the Breyer Midnight Tango mold, and is painted with acrylics and colored pencils.

She'll be shipped to Kora next week. I'm so thrilled to be able to do this for her. Whether she plays with it or displays it, I'm just glad to give her a model of her pony to remember her forever.
