I am not a runner. I will never be a runner. Still, I really enjoyed this story about Heather Dunaway's history with the BreyerFest 5K. Thank you for sharing, Heather. I'm so glad you haven't died!
We Didn't Die!
by Heather Dunaway
In 2017, Breyer started something that would become personal tradition: the BreyerFest Sunday 5K. When they posted the photo of the medal, I thought that’s pretty and I need it! How hard can a 5k be? Yeah, I’m chubby, but I have retail feet. I entered and it was unpleasant, but I finished (next from last). Time one hour, six minutes, twenty seconds. Amy was cheering me on at the end! We Didn’t Die!
2018, I thought why not, the last one was tiring but fun. One hour, seven minutes, one second.
In 2019, I did a little bit better. One hour, four minutes, fifty four seconds.
2020 was weird. I decided to do the virtual option because I knew I’d miss not doing it. My brother, Tom, joined me. We finished in one hour, four minutes, twelve seconds. I still had to have our annual We Didn’t Die! photo. My brother stood in for Amy and I pasted her face on the photo.
2021 my brother went with me again and we were around the same time as we had been. One hour, four minutes, fifty three seconds. We Didn’t Die!

| no picture from 2021, so here's Heather and her brother in 2023 instead |
Before the 2022 race, I’d lost nearly sixty pounds. My brother came to Kentucky to do the race with me and push me to a personal best! Fifty two minutes, thirty one seconds! We Didn’t Die!
This year my brother came down again. We were determined to get it done in under fifty minutes. I was another twenty pounds lighter, and I’d done some prep leading up to it. We ALMOST made it! Fifty minutes, thirty seconds! A new personal best!
And we didn't die!

LOVE THIS, Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on Not Being Dead Yet!!
ReplyDeleteThe very first BreyerFest 5K was in 2016, the year of the Carnival. There was no finisher's medal, but there were t-shirts.
