I have been to three in-person BreyerFests and have participated in - or at least witnessed - most of the things.
There is one BreyerFest event, however, in which I have absolutely no interest: the 5K.Don't get me wrong. I like walking. In fact, you can find me tooling around my neighborhood with a dog most evenings. But running? No.
And waking up early on the last day of BreyerFest to run in the heat? Absolutely no.
I'm all about never say never, but also, I feel quite confident that I will never, ever, ever run in the BreyerFest 5K.
That's okay. There are plenty of other people who are happy to run in my place.

Heather Dunaway writes: Amy Wilkerson and I have done a “We didn’t die” photo after the race every year since 2017. This year I set. Personal best time!
Olivia Tierce's mother also participated. Olivia writes: My mom ran it in thirty six minutes, average of twelve minutes per mile, twelfth in her age group and two hundred seventeenth out of four hundred. ninety two. I am so incredibly proud of her. She kept telling people she was running, and they'd say, I didn't know you were a runner. Funnily enough, she is not!
Cindy Evans-Yates participates in the 5K every year, but she doesn't run, she walks. She says: I do not worry about time. The last couple years I've dressed up for it. This year, I was The Stig from Top Gear. Last year I wore a dirndl dress.
Breyer also hosts a virtual 5K for all of their online participants. This year's run-at-home crowd included Elaine Lindelef, Barb DiAnnibella and Heather Davis.![]() |

My husband (who turned 70 a week ago) participated virtually, and he walked it. Because I procrastinated for so long before registering him, his swag kit didn’t arrive until Tuesday. I was impressed with the medal, it’s really nice! And the T-shirt is really nice! He’s very proud, and I am proud of him.
