The couple that creates together stays together. This year, Wyoming hobbyist, Nelli Lucus and her fiance, Austin decided to participate in Breyer's Virtual Diorama Contest. Nelli writes: This is my third ever diorama, and Austin’s first! We spent over one thousand hours combined of research, experimenting, crafting, failing, breaking things close to the end, cats stepping in things… but we did it!!!! First diorama making with my fiancĂ©… so lucky to have such a supportive better half that wants to be involved!
Nelli's entry depicts the “Wyoming Wool-ers”.
She explains: The first wool wagon was constructed and put into use one hundred thirty nine years ago in Rawlins, Wyoming. From the 1880's into the 1890's, the state of Wyoming helped build the nation's newer economy by hauling two or three wagons with up to a sixteen pair hitch.
Until the railroad was fully constructed through the state, wool wagons were always on the move… call them an independent trucker if you will!
Austin’s diorama is titled “Imperial Travel”.
Here's Nelli's description: In medieval Edo period in Japan (1615-1675), only the Samurai were permitted to use and ride horses. This meant other livestock were utilized to keep the country moving.
Oxen stepped up to pull the imperial and noble in a comfortable, private ride.
These carts and oxen were heavily decorated, making for the most picturesque Japanese scene!
Congratulations, Nelli and Austin. I love your wonderfully researched, historically accurate dioramas! Good luck to both of you at this years virtual BreyerFest!

Wow! Mini whinnies?!?! And I thought making Stablemate scale stuff was tiny!
ReplyDeleteOh Jennifer, thank you SO much! Austin has got the next step of the process down: religiously watching his e-mail!!
ReplyDeleteWe are just so excited that we did it! Now dioramas don't seem so scary, at least for me ;-)
