It wasn't just Tara and Jackie. Everyone who wanted to meet Olive - and could fit it into their schedule - was invited to come to the barn on Monday.

Eleanor Harvey,

Marianna Stepniewski...
Tara Reich,
and Melanie Miller. Heather Malone, Angelo Žunić, Fabian Rodriguez, Julia Turner, Maddie Caron, Lisa Smalley and Jackie Rossi were also in attendance, but I didn't manage to take individual photos of them.
I saddled up Olive and Celeste,Maddie...
and Eleanor each took a turn riding her.Olive was perfect - her best self - right up until the moment when she wasn't. I've spent the last two weeks analyzing what went wrong, and I don't really have an explanation other than horses will be horses, and mustangs even more so. Fortunately, Christine was on hand to get on and give her a good, firm schooling ride.
It got worse before it got better...
Ugh...But things ended on a good note.
As much as I love sharing my pony, I'm not sure there will be any riding if BreyerWest is in Denver again next year. We'll see.

Olive had four different hands and balanced bodies on her and none of them were the one that she has trust and confidence in! They weren’t you, her person, especially at this phase of her training! I think she did great, until she tried to tell everyone…enough…get off!!!
ReplyDeleteI really don't think that's it. She's generally a willing and cheerful mount and doesn't have a problem with being ridden by other people. She had as many people on her on sidesaddle day, and she was fine. She was fine for most of this day, too. She just got rattled and then things escalated really quickly. That's pretty much the problem right there. She can go from zero to one hundred really quickly, and she's so quiet most of the time, people don't see it coming.
