BreyerWest Open Show

The first official day of BreyerWest is all about the Open Show.

Regular Run Champs, Teresa Buzzell and Fabian Rodriguez with judge, Kenzie Williamson
Normally, I would go all out for a big destination show less than fifteen miles from my house, but February is a hard month. I attempted the open show in 2020. It did not go well, so this year, I decided to skip it. Instead, I spent a leisurely morning with Bobbie and Olive, then headed over to the Expo.
Stephanie Blaylock's table
Everything was going just fine in my absence.
Teresa Buzzell's Over Fences entry
The judges were judging,
Mindy Berg judging Custom Minis
the performance showers were tacking,
Erika Isbell and Paige (?) tacking
friends were winning...
Lindsay Diamond and Julia Turner winning
and Tara's Screaming Man was, well, screaming.
Shenanigans on Lisa Smalley's table
I spent a couple pleasant hours, checking in with old and new friends and ogling everyone's tables.
Heather Malone's table
Look at this ice plow made by Lisa Smalley. So cool!

I also watched the competition in my two favorite rings, Custom Halter...
Custom Fjord owned by Lauren Hoeffer
and Performance.
Lisa Smalley's 2022 NaMoPaiMo horse showing in performance
The Performance classes were small but mighty.
Overall Performance Champion owned by Erika Isbell
With competition this tough...
Fabulous Outhouse Race entry
it's no wonder judge, Laura Skillern looked so tired!
In the end, it was a sweep for Erika Isbell. Congratulations, Erika!
Congratulations also to Erin Corbett et al for another successful BreyerWest Open.
Maybe next year I'll be able to participate more fully!

  1. It warms my heart to see a John Henry winning a performance championship. I remember when that mold came out and we were all like, " . . . what happened to this sculpt?" but then he turned out to be a--pun intended--dark horse performance powerhouse.

    1. Masks aside, the whole weekend had a Before Times vibe, and seeing John Henry on the Champ table really had me doing a year/decade check. That said, Erika did a really good job showing him. He deserved those ribbons!
