Several years ago, Lisa Smalley released a traditional scale goat resin that came in two versions: Nubian and LaMancha.
I like goats almost as much as I like Lisa Smalley, so I immediately bought the Nubian. That's the one with long ears. Then Lisa brought a herd of goats to the BreyerWest 2022, and I ended up with a LaMancha, too. Sometimes it's like that.
I got the Nubian into base coat fairly promptly, but that's where it's stayed, for years on end.
I realized that was basically the same color I wanted for the LaMancha goat, so I found her, prepped her, primed her and gave her a good base coat. And then she sat - right next to her Nubian sister - until about a week ago. This hasn't been a good year for art, but I am trying to finish strong. To that end, I've been picking away at several of my long term projects, including the LaMancha goat.
Although I reserve the right to revisit her later, at least for now, I'm calling her done. She's not perfect - mine never are - but I'm quite pleased with her. She photographs well, and is so cute in her weird, little, no-ear, alien way.
I've also made some progress on the Nubian. This hasn't been a good year for art, but maybe it can be a good year for goats? I'm really going to try to finish the other one, too!

I have never heard of a goat without ears. Looks cute and odd at the same time. 🙂 Funny, I painted my first goat ever this year too and I bought more to paint. 😄
ReplyDeleteThey both are looking very nice. They are so cute.
ReplyDeleteI do love that phrase, A good year for goats. Please let it be!
