Pity party

Unbeknownst to me, a group of my hobby friends, led by Heather Malone, were scheming to throw me a surprise birthday party two weeks ahead of my actual birthday.

After Olive died, it was decided - wisely - that I should be clued in. I was given the option of cancelling the party altogether, but that didn't seem right. People had made plans, and besides, these are my friends. Even though I'm sad, I want to spend time with them.
The birthday pity party took place yesterday evening at Heather's house.
There was food ( including cake)...
and a few rousing rounds of Erin Corbett's Model Horse Card Game.
Oh, we laughed so hard!
We also watched the 2022 documentary, Not Just Plastic Horses.
I'd seen this before, but not for many years. It was so fun revisiting it again. I especially enjoyed the interviews with friends, including our hostess, Heather.
Although this was not supposed to be a birthday party, a couple people came bearing gifts. I got beer from Fabian, a very important warning sign from Teresa and a cute resin dog from Angelo.
Beatrice gave me this gorgeous portrait medallion, which she both sculpted and painted. It made me cry, but in a good way.
Thank you Angelo, Beatrice, Fabian, Eleanor, Teresa, Karen, Dana, Vicky and Heather. I had so much fun.
That was definitely the best pity party ever.

  1. I have a feeling that if NaMoPaiMo happens this year, a lot of people will make portraits of Olive ❤️

    1. I am definitely hosting NaMoPaiMo this year. I don't know if I'll paint, but the event means too much to me to just let it go because I am mourning.
